Baptism symbolizes the dying of yourself and being resurrected in Christ. It's an open and public declaration of anewnessin life and thenew purpose for your life. The procedures of a baptism go through each of the steps of your road that led you to this moment.
1st Corinthians 15:20 - 21 NKJV (20) But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. (21) For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. (22) For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. - The Apostle Paul -
Confirmation of your salvation
You will be asked if you have done a salvation prayer that was witnessed. You may be given the option of giving a salvation prayer at the time of your baptism.
Romans 10:8 - 10 NKJV (8) But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): (9) that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (10) For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
The expression of WHY you are being baptized
You will be asked why you are choosing to be baptized. You should answer from YOUR heart and TRUTHFULLY. When you decided to be baptized it should have been strictly guided by the Holy Spirit guiding your heart. Listening to the Holy Spirit in obedience is a great start for your new Christian life.
Prayer by you...and prayer over you
The ones who are baptizing you will pray over you (pray for you). They are praying because they want you to have spiritual protection over you during and after your baptism. They may also pray for anything that the Holy Spirit leads them to pray for. Both before and after your baptism family members and friends may be invited to pray for you as well. Your Baptizers will most likely ask if you would like to pray and I strongly suggest that you do so. Prayer is simply talking to Jesus Christ and His Father God as you would anyone else. During prayer you may want to say thank you, ask for forgiveness of your sins (verbally out loud), and ask Jesus Christ and His Father God to guide you in some particular way. Remember this... Relax your mind, listen for that small voice, and just let your prayer flow out of your lips.
Matthew 18:20 NKJV (20) For where two or three are gathered together in My (Jesus) name, I (Jesus) am there in the midst of them."
Colossians 1:9 - 12 NKJV (9) For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; (10) that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; (11) strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; (12) giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. - The Apostle Paul -
The actual act of baptism
After entering the water the one(s) baptizing you will do so in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. You will lean back and briefly be submerged under the water and lifted back to the surface. Congratulations you are now baptized.
2nd Corinthians 5:17 - 18 NKJV (17) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (18) Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, - The Apostle Paul -
